NW Cider Symposium: Where Cider Minds Come Together
Plaid and cider, unite! The NW Cider Symposium was a lot of fun - and cider nerdiness - as cideries from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia came together. Packed into two days, the Symposium opened with a Tasting on Monday to get the event rolling. Plenty of cider was available for sampling, followed by an “after party” at the new Cider & Cedar taphouse in downtown Tacoma.
The Tasting Event was a great opportunity to say hi to familiar cideries, many of which are talked about on the @ciderminded Instagram. A few of new, first hellos are mentioned below:
Empyrical Orchard & Cidery, est. 2021, ciders made in Snohomish, WA and available online. Learn more: Empyrical Orchard & Cidery (pressthenpress.com)
Slightly Furry Beverage Company, est. 2020, ciders available in Seattle and Lake Forest Park, WA. Check them out: Slightly Furry Beverage Company
Sisters’ Cider House, est. 2022, their taproom is open on Bainbridge Island, WA. Read more: Sisters' Cider House
After plenty of cider, it was on to Day 2! The symposium offered four tracks. I indulged in the marketing and growing tracks. I learned about some great new tools, tried new ciders, and learned a little about the impacts of climate change on our orchards along the way. This second day also offered discussion sessions, a trade show, and plenty of time to socialize - my favorite! After a day of learning, it’s nice to enjoy some cider and chat.
Plus, on Day 2, there were plenty of congratulations to go around, as American Cider Association announced the newest Certified Pommeliers™ to join the ranks. Check out the full list here: Certified Pommeliers - American Cider Association.
