Behind the Scenes at Tutts Clump Cider

Founded by Tim Wale in the early 2000's, Tutt’s Clump Cider evolved from hobby to profession. At the time Tim found his cider passion, he owned a mechanic shop. As his interest in cider grew, and the flagship cider recipe rounded out, he made a unique move: he traded his profession and his hobby. Tim’s mechanic shop became a cidery, and his hobby space filled with cars and tractors.

His flagship cider is the Traditional Farmhouse. After years of perfecting the art of dry cider, it naturally became the first to hit the markets. Beginning at local farmers markets, Tim continued investing in Tutt’s Clump. Over the years, it grew into a family affair - two of his daughters are now on staff - Meanwhile, distribution expanded to local pubs and grocers.

Tutt’s Clump has expanded their offerings to nearly 20 ciders. And the crew isn’t slowing down there. Tutt’s Clump recently introduced an ice cider (this is a process of extracting sugar-potent juice from frozen apple juice, leaving the water behind as ice, and creating a higher ABV treat) to their portfolio. The property now also has a small orchard of 20-30 trees.

I can’t thank Tim enough for the opportunity to tour his cidery. It was an unforgettable experience on my holiday to the U.K. If I took away anything - beyond the decades of passion in this cider - may we all find careers that we love as hobbies or professions.
